Canton Road To Be Bombed

Official Warning

All vehicles using the road from the border of the New Territories of Hong Kong to Canton do so at their own risk as the Japanese authorities intend to keep it under bombardment, according to an off- cial communique issued by the Co- lonial Secretary, Hong Kong, late on Jan. 18.

The communique reads. Communique.

The Japanese authorities have informed His Britannic Majesty's Ambassador at Tokyo that they in- tend to keep the road from the border of the New Territories of Hong Kong to Canton under bom- bardment, and that all vehicles using the road do so at their own risk.

British subjects who, for very urgent reasons, may require to traverse the area indicated may in- form either the Colonial Authorl- ties of Hong Kong or His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General at Can- ton, who will use their discretion whether or not to inform His Bri- tannic Majesty's Ambassador at Tokyo with a view to bringing specific cases to the notice of the Japanese authorities.

The British authorities, however, accept no responsibility in the matter.
